On the afternoon of November 21, Professor Gao Hang, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Normal University and doctoral supervisor, was invited to deliver an academic lecture titled "Reform and Research Exploration of College Foreign Language Education in the New Era" in Room 1508 of the Administration Building. All faculty members of the College English Department attended the lecture.
In the context of the new era, college foreign language education is facing multiple challenges and opportunities, including conceptual innovation, model transformation, and the restructuring of evaluation systems. Professor Gao Hang provided an in-depth analysis of this core topic, focusing on three key areas: the pathways for reforming college foreign language education, the reform practices at Shanghai Normal University, and research and exploration in college foreign language education. He emphasized that the reform should concentrate on upgrading and transforming four dimensions: the restructuring of teaching objectives, the transformation of teachers' roles, the evolution of educational paradigms, and the deep integration of teaching and research. Professor Gao also shared the specific attempts and achievements made in recent years in foreign language education reform at Shanghai Normal University. He encouraged teachers to engage in research projects related to foreign language education, noting that the deep integration of teaching and research is a crucial means to enhance both teaching quality and research capabilities. Teachers should actively participate in various research projects and use their findings to inform and improve teaching practices. The on-site discussion was lively and productive. In the face of the challenges of the new era, college foreign language teachers are encouraged to update their educational philosophies, continuously improve their professional competence and teaching skills, actively explore innovative teaching methods, and promote the development of college foreign language education to a higher level.
