SUES Student Won the Top Prize in Shanghai Division of “FLTRP Cup” English Speech Contest

On November 5, Li Ling, a student of the School of Urban Rail Transportation, won the Top Prize in Shanghai Division of “FLTRP Cup” English Speech Contest, and thus is qualified to participate in the National Finals. This is also the best result since our university participated in this event.

“FLTRP Cup” English Speech Contest was founded in 2002. The Contest is sponsored by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and undertaken by the Ministry of Education University College Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee; now it has become the largest and highest English speech contest with largest number of participating people. With lofty conception and innovative ideas, The Contest provides an integrated platform for national college students to display their foreign proficiency, communication skills and thinking ability, so that it gathers national outstanding students to compete in English expression and communication skills. Shanghai Division attracted participants from 23 universities, including Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai International Studies University, Donghua University, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai University and our university.

Li Ling has repeatedly represented SUES in major English speech contests and won excellent awards: in October 2014, she won the second prize in the twelfth East China “21st Century • Sino-Australia Cup” China-Australia College StudentsEnglish Contest under the elaborate guidance of Teachers Li Chunlin and Gao Yanning from School of Fundamental Studies; in November 2015, under the guidance of Teachers Li Chunlin and Gao Yanning, she once again won the second prize in “21st Century Coca-Cola Cup” National English Speech Contest. After persistent efforts, she broke her own record in the latest Shanghai Division Finals of the “FLTRP Cup” Speech Contest. The Contest is divided into three parts: fixed-theme speech, impromptu speech, on-stage questions. Prior to the Contest, the School of Foreign Studies selected two backbone teachers Fei Jijing and Zhou Xin to guide Li Ling to prepare the Contest with the collaboration of the experienced Teacher Gao Yanning. During the Contest, Li Ling selected a novel topic, gave an orderly impromptu speech and wisely and fluently answered on-stage questions. After a fierce competition, she ultimately won the top award in the Contest.
