Xiaomin Liu, male, was born in October 1963in Yichang City, Hubei Province. He received his degree of Master of Arts inTranslation at the University of Manchester, UK and is now a Professor. He is adeputy dean in the School of Fundamental Studies, Shanghai University ofEngineering Science (SUES).

He lectures on College English IntegratedCourse, English Speaking Course to undergraduates and Essential English topost-graduates. His research area lies in Translation, British and AmericanLiterature and English Language Teaching. He has hosted a project in the secondEnglish Teaching Extensive Reform Scheme prompted by Higher EducationDepartment, Ministry of Education. He has also hosted 3 school-level projectsfor Foreign Language Reform. He has published over 30 papers, edited 3textbooks and participated in editing 6 other textbooks.

Professor Liu has always laid emphasis onassisting and encouraging students to compete in various English contests.Since 2005, he has organized and facilitated students to attend the NationalEnglish Contest for College Students (NECCS). Under his supervision, manystudents have attained prizes and awards. For his contribution, he wasrepeatedly granted Excellent Instructor Award and Outstanding Organizer Awardby the National Foreign Language Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry ofEducation and China English Language Higher Education Association. In 2009 and2010, students mentored by him achieved second and third prizes in “the 21stCentury ECNU-ACC Cup” China- Australia Friendship English Contests and he wasagain conferred Excellent Instructor Award. In 2010, his student won firstprize in the “Queensland Cup” English Speech Competition. In the same year, hisstudents obtained second prize in “FLTRP Cup” English Public Speaking Contest(Shanghai Station). He received first prize in the 8th Guiqi Computer TeachingScholarship in Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) in 2005. Hewas elected as “Outstanding Educator” from 2006 to 2007. In the next year, hewon the “Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award” and after that in 2009, he waselected as “Model Party Member” in SUES. In 2011, he received the title of“Model Teacher” in SUES.


Ping Wang, female, was born in September,1963 in Tianjin City. She has attained Ph.D. in literature from ShanghaiInternational Studies University. She is now an Associate Professor andTeaching Director in the Foreign Language Teaching Department under the Schoolof Fundamental Studies, SUES. She teaches lectures in relation to CollegeEnglish Integrated Course and English Speaking to undergraduates, and EssentialEnglish course to postgraduates. Her research field lies in Linguistics andApplied Linguistics. She took charge of a provincial Humanities and SocialSciences project granted by the Department of Education and participated as akey member in another provincial Humanities and Social Sciences project alsopromoted by the Department of Education. She directed and completed a researchinitiation project on college level. She is now undertaking multiple tasks,including coaching a Student Innovation Training Project and participating in aPost-graduate Curriculum Building Project, a “12th Five-Year Plan” Project aswell as a College Teaching Project. She keeps pace with research development byattending academic conventions and seminars frequently. She has published abook titled A Study on English and Chinese Phrase Structure and over 20 paperswere adopted by key journals such as Academics, Foreign Language andLiterature, Shanghai Journal of Translators, and Hubei Social Science.


Bei Zhang, female, was born in March 1964in Shanghai. She is now an Associate Professor lecturing College English andChairperson of the Union in the Foreign Language Teaching Department under theSchool of Fundamental Studies, SUES. In 2007, she attained M.A. degree inTechnology Education from Lawrence Institute of Technology.

Ms Zhang mainly teaches English Speakingand Listening Courses and College English Integrated Course to undergraduatesand Essential English course to postgraduates. Her research area is CollegeEnglish Teaching and British and American Literature. She has published twopapers related to English learning and computer application in Americanacademic journals. She also published 4 papers in key journals in China inrelation to literature review and language teaching and 4 papers in generaljournals nationally. She was Editor-in-Chief for an Oral English textbook. Shewas in charge of two school-scale Model Course (精品课程?) projects (College English Speaking and Listening Courses) whichranked second in the university and one school-scale course-book-project whichranked first. The postgraduate curriculum building project she hosted camesecond and she is undertaking an education project (in process) in SUES. Shegot involved in two projects concerning college English teaching reform, one ofwhich is granted by the Ministry of Education and the other by SUES (bothranked the 4th). The students she tutored achieved second and third prizes inthe 9th and 10th “21st Century ECNU-ACC Cup” China- Australia Friendship EnglishContests and she was conferred Excellent Instructor Award twice for hercontribution.


Yue Sheng, male, was born in January 1963in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. He is an Associate Professor and DeputyDirector in the Foreign Language Teaching Department under the School ofFundamental Studies. Mr. Sheng lectures on integrated course, English listeningcourses, and Essential English course to undergraduates. He is one of thelecturers in charge of the Advance College English Integrated Course. His researcharea lies in Computer Assisted English Teaching. Over the years, he has gotinvolved in multiple researches and teaching projects, one of which wassponsored by Shanghai Research and Teaching Office. Quite a few papers werepublished on national and international journals such as Asia TEFL, ForeignLanguage Teaching in Theory and Practice, Contemporary Foreign LanguageStudies. He was once awarded “Model Educator”  (先进教育工作者? )in SUES.


Liyan Qi, female, was born in March, 1966.She is now an Associate Professor, focusing her research work on EnglishLanguage and Literature, Second Language Acquisition and Inter-culturalCommunication. She graduated from English Language Department, Xi’anInternational Studies University and did her post-graduate training course inSouth China University of Technology. She is a senior college teacher with aworking experience of over 23 years. She has a mastery of the English languageand could perfectly perform Simultaneous Interpreting. Ms Qi has developed herown unique and effective way of teaching English. Her classes are alwayspopular and her passionate teaching craft is very well-received among studentsas she emphasizes on strategies and methods to the acquisition of the Englishlanguage. Moreover, students would usually find it easier to pass CET-4 andCET-6 after taking her classes. One of the reasons why she was respected andtrusted by so many may be that she has a profound understanding of thetextbooks and creates a lively classroom atmosphere for most students. Heroriginal perspective and interpretation of English Exam for Master Degreesbenefits many post-graduate students. Her clear and precise and informativelecturing style has not only attracted but also inspired many. Her star course,An Insight into the U.S., offers a detailed and vivid introduction to almostevery aspect of American life, which promotes an international vision andprepares students for their further study overseas.

Ms Qi has published 13 academic papers asfirst author, including one paper adopted by ISTP/CPCI, four by Chinese CoreJournals collected by Peking University Library, seven by influentialuniversity journals and one by other journals. Her field of study is relativelyfocused and she continues her work with great effort. She participated incompiling five published textbooks and undertook one teaching project oncollege level. She was awarded “Model Educator” consecutively as a consequenceof her excellent teaching as well as her reputation among students.


Jianqiang Lin, male, was born is September,1955 in Zhenghai City, Zhejiang Province. He is an associate professor in theForeign Language Department in SUES. Mr. Lin teaches College English IntegratedCourse (Grade 1-4) and Tutorials for CET-4 and CET-6. He focuses his researchon British and American Literature, Second Language Acquisition and EnglishLanguage Teaching.

Mr. Lin has published 9 papers on nationaljournals, including key journals such as Foreign Language Journal (CSSCI),Foreign Language Research (CSSCI) Masterpiece Review and College ForeignLanguage Teaching Studies (a paper titled The Study of politeness from culturalvalues). He has also acted as chief editor for 4 textbooks, namely, A Course onAdvanced English Listening, College English Vocabulary Course, ListeningStrategy for CET-4, and College English Vocabulary. He has received ExcellentInstructor Award many times for his outstanding work in tutoring students forNational English Contest for College Students. In 2005, he was awarded thetitle of “Model Educator” in SUES.


Yuanqiong Wu, female, was born in July 1975in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. She has attained the degree of Master ofArts from East China Normal University and now is an Associate Professor in theForeign Language Department under the School of Fundamental Studies, SUES. Shelectures on College English Integrated Course, English Listening and SpeakingCourses to undergraduates as well as Essential English to post-graduates.Linguistics, especially Applied Linguistics is her area of research and she hasachieved successful research outcome in the area. Eleven papers were publishedin national and international mainstream journals, including Perspectives:Studies in Translatology and Metaphoric.de. One of her papers was indexed byA&HCI, one by CSSCI and one by Chinese Core Journals collected by PekingUniversity Library. More importantly, her papers were citied many times byfellow researchers at home and abroad. She has hosted two projects on theschool-scale, participated in one project in the second English TeachingExtensive Reform Scheme prompted by Higher Education Department, Ministry ofEducation, and many other projects. She went to The University of BritishColumbia as a visiting scholar and attended workshops in St. Cloud StateUniversity, USA for a summer program. She was awarded second and third prize inGuiqi Computer Teaching Scholarship in SUES and won the titles of “OutstandingYoung Teacher” and “Model Teacher”.


Wei Hu, female, was born in Shanghai. Sheis an Associate Professor in Foreign Language Department under the School ofFundamental Studies, SUES. She has over 30 years of teaching experience, alwaysworking in the frontline. She mainly teaches College English Integrated Courseand Tutorials for CET4 and CET6. Her area of research is British and AmericanLiterature and Second Language Acquisition. She has published quite a fewpapers in relation to language teaching in the journal of College ForeignLanguage Teaching Studies. In 2006, she joined the compilation of The LatestModel Tests for CET-4 (710). In 2001 and 2004 she came first and second inGuiqi Computer Teaching Scholarship respectively. She was awarded “ModelEducator” between 2002 and 2003.


Ping Gao, female, was born in October, 1960in Shandong Province. She attained her degree of Bachelor of Arts and is now anAssociate Professor in Foreign Language Department under the School ofFundamental Studies, SUES. She mostly lectures College English Integrated Course, English Listening and SpeakingCourses. Collage Language Teaching and Application is her area of research. Shehas published around twenty papers on language teaching studies in journals athome and abroad. She compiled two textbooks, i.e. Oral English Course forBorder Police and Vocabulary Handbook for Border Police. She won third prizetwice in Science Contest of Armed Police Force Academy. In 1989, she wasawarded third merit for her outstanding teaching.


Ping Hu, male, was born in March, 1966 inXiantao City, Hubei Province. He is an Associate Professor and now is studyingfor his doctorial degree. He has published about 10 papers in journals in bothChina and overseas. He was Editor-in-Chief for the textbook, College EnglishReading for Outstanding Engineers (Series 1-3), published by Fudan Press. Healso participated in the compilation of A Readers’ Guide to Classic English andAmerican Literature (Associate Editor-in-Chief) and A Survey of the ChineseCivilization (Chinese-English version) (Associate Editor-in-Chief) and MarineEnglish Reading (Chief Copy Editor). He lectures on Integrated English Coursefor undergraduates and Essential English Course for graduates. His grading ofwork performance was outstanding after the annual assessment of the School ofFundamental Studies between 2008 and 2009 and again between 2011 and 2012.


Jinlong Liu, male, was born in October 1979in Xingzi City, Jiangxi Province. He attained his degree of Master of Arts andnow is an Associate Professor in Foreign Language Department under the Schoolof Fundamental Studies, SUES. He is a member of Shanghai Science and TechnologyTranslation Society (SSTTS), The Translators Association of China (TAC), ChinaComparative Literature Studies Society, Shanghai Foreign Affairs TranslationAssociation. He is engaged as an expert consultant member for the project“Applied Translation Theory and Teaching Series” by National Defense IndustryPress, the editorial offices of Shanghai Journal of Translators and ChineseScience and Technology Translators Journal. Meanwhile, he was invited as copyeditor by Higher Education Press and East China University of Science andTechnology Press. He lectures on both undergraduate and postgraduate coursesincluding College English Integrated Course, English Speaking and ListeningCourse, Essential English English-Chinese Translation Theory and Practice,Specialized English (Translation Theory and Practice). His field of studyfocuses on translation theory and practice, applied translation, translationreview, and he has achieved fruitful outcomes: over 100 papers published in keyjournals, such as Chinese Translators Journal, Chinese Science and TechnologyTranslators Journal, Shanghai Journal of Translators, Translations, ShangdongForeign Language Teaching Journal, Publishing Research, Journals of Xi’anInternational Studies University, Contemporary Foreign Language Studies,Minority Translators Journal, Lexicographical Studies, Li Lun Yue Kan, andCichuan Drama. Among these works, 23 papers were CSSCI journals, key foreign languagejournals, ect. His academic papers were frequently cited by fellow researchers.He was also actively involved in compiling or co-editing 44 translation booksand textbooks. Representative books of his are EST Reading and Translation: ACourse Book (2013), The New EST Reading Course book (2013), A Dictionary ofTranslation Studies in China (2011), Idiomatic English Phonetic Alphabet(2011), A Practical Coursebook of Translation (2010), etc. He was in charge ofone project granted by Shanghai Education Commission, one school-scale projectand participated in 11 projects on provincial and ministerial or college level.He has attended various academic convocations for around 21 times and receivedmultiple awards for his excellent performance in his field. For example, he wasconferred “Academic Research Work Award of SUES” in 2013, “Innovative andOutstanding Party Member of SUES” in 2012, and “Xin Chang Zheng New Pioneer” in2009. He also won third prize in Textbook Competition of SUES (2011) and one ofhis papers came first in the 9th East China Translation Seminar (2007).
